Required Auto Insurance in Arizona

Arizona requires all drivers to have liability insurance for both property damage and bodily injury, which pays for any damage or injuries caused by an accident in which you were at fault. Arizona requires the following minimum liability coverage:

  • Bodily Injury: $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident.
  • Property Damage: $15,000 per accident.

Arizona Teen Driving Laws

Arizona operates under a Graduated Driver's License (GDL) program, which includes three stages: Graduated Instruction Permit, Graduated Driver's License, and Unrestricted Driver's License.

  • Graduated Instruction Permit: Once your teen is 15 and 6 months old, they may apply for their graduated instruction permit. To obtain their permit, teen drivers must pass a written exam and a vision screening.
  • Graduated Driver's License: At 16, teen drivers can apply for a graduated driver's license after holding an instruction permit for 6 months. For six months after obtaining their graduated driver's license, teen drivers cannot drive between the hours of midnight and 5:00 AM and may not carry more than one passenger under the age of 18, except siblings.
  • Unrestricted Driver's License: Once 18, drivers may apply immediately for a full unrestricted license.
